Potty training a puppy is one of the most horrible, annoying, frustrating things about getting a puppy. There are so many ways to do it – it is actually I highly debated topic.
Here is the way I potty trained Maeve, and avoided a TON of accidents in her crate.
- I had a lot of patience. This is literally required. You can’t get mad at every accident that your dog has.
- Let your dog out every 30 minutes. that way you can be sure that your dog doesn’t need to go
- Stay with your dog outside for at least five minutes.
- Don’t punish accidents in the house. if you aren’t there to witness it, you missed your chance. Your dog won’t understand why you are mad.
- Startle them! If you do catch your dog going in the house, then immediately startle them. Clap your hands, snap your fingers, whistle, say “Don’t do that!” in a loud tone, and as soon as they stop, take them outside right away.
Good luck!
